From a recent COHA Bulletin…
Effective May 1, 2005 manufacturers who certify their oil-fired appliances with CSA were required to incorporate a blocked vent shut-off switch to their appliances in accordance with the CSA B140.3.
This requirement applies to only certification agencies adopting the revised code. Other agencies such as ULC are certifying to the previous code and therefore are not required to install a blocked vent shut-off system on their appliances.
TSSA recommends the use of a blocked vent shut-off switch however at this time the revised code has not been adopted by TSSA and therefore it is only a recommendation at this time.
Installers purchasing appliances certified by CSA manufactured after May1, 2005 shall ensure the appliance is equipped with a blocked vent shut-off system.
